STEP BY STEP

How a cemetery burial works

  1. Tell us the cemetery, or that your family already owns a plot.
  2. Buy the grave and its opening from the cemetery. We can make that call with you.
  3. We file the permits and schedule the burial with the cemetery.
  4. On the day, we bring your loved one to the cemetery in the funeral coach and lead the graveside service with your family.

What the cemetery charges for

Each cemetery sets its own prices. Ask for its price list before you decide, or let us ask for you.

  • The grave, unless you already own one
  • Opening and closing the grave, often more on weekends
  • A vault or grave liner, if the cemetery requires one
  • Setting the marker or headstone
  • Any perpetual care fee

Already own a family plot?

Bring the deed or the cemetery’s certificate if you have it. We confirm the space with the cemetery and take it from there.

Burying an urn

Most cemeteries offer urn graves and columbarium niches, often for less than a full grave. Many allow an urn in an existing family plot.

Cemetery and burial questions

Do you work with any cemetery?

Yes. We work with all cemeteries in Chicago and the suburbs, including Catholic, Lutheran, Masonic and nondenominational cemeteries. The ones on this page are the ones families ask us about most.

How much does a burial cost in Chicago?

Our burial packages are $2,500 for Direct Burial, $4,950 for Family Gathering and $5,550 for a Traditional Funeral. A casket starts at $1,297 and a cement grave liner is $795. The cemetery’s charges are separate. Estimate your total.

What does a cemetery charge for?

Each cemetery sets its own prices for the grave, opening and closing it, setting a marker or headstone, and any perpetual care fee. Ask the cemetery for its price list, or let us ask for you.

Can you help us buy a plot?

Yes. A grave is bought directly from the cemetery, but we can make the call with you and explain your options.

Does every cemetery require a vault?

Not every one, but most cemeteries require an outer burial container, such as a cement grave liner or a vault. Ask your cemetery about its rules, and we will help you with what it requires.

Can a burial be on a Saturday?

Many cemeteries allow Saturday burials, often with a higher charge for the opening and closing. We’ll check your cemetery’s schedule and fees for you.

Can cremated remains be buried in a family plot?

Many cemeteries allow an urn to be buried in an existing family plot, and most offer urn graves and columbarium niches. Ask your cemetery about its rules, or let us ask for you.

How do we arrange a burial?

Call us at (773) 866-2273. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we’ll coordinate with the cemetery for you.
