We keep your plan on file and you get a copy for your records. When the time comes, your family makes one call, day or night, and we take care of everything you chose.

Applying for Medicaid to cover nursing home care? An irrevocable prepaid cremation plan is one of the few expenses you can pay ahead of time without it counting as an asset in Illinois.

Prepaid cremation questions
Is the price really locked in?
Yes. The cremation services and items in your plan are guaranteed at the price you pay today, however many years from now they’re needed. The only exceptions are fees set by the government, such as the cremation permit and certified death certificates, if those change.
Where does my money go?
Into a life insurance policy from Funeral Directors Life, an insurance company that specializes in funeral pre-planning. Your money isn’t held by Caring Cremations. The policy pays for your cremation when it’s needed.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. You can pay in full or choose a payment plan, right in the online planner. Call us if you’d like help choosing.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes. You can update your wishes at any time. Call us at (773) 866-2273 and we’ll update your file. If you switch to a different package, we’ll explain any difference in price.
What if I move away from Chicago?
Your plan is funded by a life insurance policy, so it isn’t lost if you move. It can be transferred to a funeral home near your new home.
Can I prepay for my mom or dad?
Yes. Many plans are set up by adult children for a parent. Your parent is the person the plan covers, and we’ll work with both of you on the choices and the paperwork.
Does a prepaid plan help with Medicaid?
An irrevocable prepaid cremation plan generally isn’t counted as an asset for Illinois Medicaid, which is why families often set one up when a parent is going into a nursing home. Read our guide to prepaid cremation and Illinois Medicaid.
What happens when the time comes?
Your family calls us at (773) 866-2273, any hour of the day or night. We confirm your plan and take care of everything in it: bringing your loved one into our care, the permits and paperwork, the cremation, and returning the cremated remains to your family.
Do I need to come to your office?
No. You can plan entirely from home, online or by phone. If you’d like to meet in person, our funeral home is at 3521 N. Pulaski Rd. in Irving Park.
