Born on October 31, 1995, in Elgin, Illinois, Yahaira will be remembered for the lasting impression she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Yahaira was the funniest person in every room she walked into. She could make people laugh not only during the happiest moments, but even during life’s hardest ones. Her sense of humor was matched by a warmth and sincerity that made people feel welcome and accepted. She had a way of making others feel like they belonged, and that is something those who knew her will carry with them forever.
The impact Yahaira had on others was profound. She gave love freely, made people laugh effortlessly, and created connections that will remain in the hearts of many. She did not need grand gestures to make a difference. She simply had a way of making people feel valued, cared for, and loved just by being herself.

Even in her final moments, Yahaira continued to think of others. In keeping with her generous heart, she chose to become an organ donor, giving the gift of life to others and allowing a part of her to live on. Her final act was a beautiful reflection of the person she was throughout her life selfless, loving, and always willing to give a piece of herself to someone else.

Yahaira will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her mother, Edna Mendez, and her sisters, Anjelica Perez and Janelle Guzman, along with her extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Although she is no longer here in the way we wish she could be, Yahaira’s laughter will continue to echo in the memories she left behind. Her love will remain in the hearts of those who knew her, and her light will continue through the lives she touched and the lives she helped save.
