Obituary

Willie Delaney, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Ryze West in Chicago, IL. Born in Tyler, TX, Willie was the fifth of eight children born to Leslie Milas Delaney Sr. and Martha Lee Warren Delaney, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Tyler, TX where he completed his education and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering. Later, he moved to Detroit, MI, where he spent the majority of his adult life. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Reta Hairston Delaney, who also preceded him in death. Losing Reta was the greatest sorrow of his life.

He worked as an electrical engineer at Budd Wheel and Chrysler in Detroit, MI. After leaving Chrysler, he became an independent contractor, focusing on remodeling homes, working on commercial properties, electrical projects, and appliance installations. He earned a reputation for his skill and reliability, often called upon by prominent figures in Michigan for his expertise. Later, Willie moved to Chicago, IL, to support his dear friend Chris-Tia Donaldson, founder of TGIN, who also preceded him in death. She employed him as the handyman for her warehouse, entrusting him with projects ranging from remodeling to setting up office and conference spaces.

Willie was a brilliant, humble, and honorable man, a treasured friend to all who knew him. He was always ready to help anyone in need, making those who called him a friend feel exceptionally fortunate. His warmth and dedication will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his stepson Antony Thomas (Bonita), stepdaughter Nicole Davis (Jonathan), six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind five siblings: Billy Delaney, Gloria Johnson, Shirley Jones, John Delaney, and Martha Coleman Lusk, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. Special mention goes to his niece Rayna Pratt (Michael) and his dear friend Michelle Elledge, who cared for him lovingly until his passing.
