William G. Urso passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.  Bill was born in Oneonta, New York on July 7, 1932.  He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School in Watervliet, as well as LaSalle High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.   At RPI, he became a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering.  He was granted several brake patents while working at Bendix.  He proudly served in the Korean War. Skiing meant everything to Bill. He kept records of all his skiing adventures beginning in the early 70's and held a season's pass at Jiminy Peak until he was 83.  He was an active member of the Albany Out of Control Ski Club and once received the empty wallet award for 77 days of skiing in a single season, a testament to his dedication towards his favorite hobby.   He had one last skiing adventure at Steamboat with his daughters at the age of 87.  It was a great trip that included going to the hot springs and dogsledding.   Bill loved to travel and shared that love with his family.  Each year, there was always a skiing adventure and beach adventure.  He loved going to Cape Cod and taking his family sailing in Maine.  The highlight was the regatta at the end of the week, where the Urso Team could always be spotted wearing their red polos and white shorts. Other travel highlights included memorable family trips to Antigua, Hawaii and Spain. Bill was a fixture at RPI Hockey games.  He had season tickets ever since he graduated RPI and had some of the best seats in the arena.  He coordinated hockey tickets for the Alumni Association and was in Detroit for RPI's 1985 National Hockey Championship victory. Bill met his wife Paula when he returned from Korea at a bowling alley. They fell in love and married in 1957.  They enjoyed dancing, going to hockey games, and family picnics with the boat.  Paula's life was sadly cut short as she succumbed to cancer in 1990.   Bill and Paula had two children: Cynthia (Kurt Wassenar) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Kimberly (William Green) of Oak Park, Illinois. Bill adored his daughters and would talk to them every day.   He was also very proud of his grandkids: Chase Wassenar, Amanda Wassenar, Ryan Green, and Natalie Green. His face lit up any time he had the opportunity to talk about them. In 2000, Bill met his fiancée Gunnel Lunden skiing at Jiminy Peak.  They enjoyed traveling to Sweden and taking cruises. They also enjoyed going to the theatre and hiking. Bill's memory will live on through his adoring family. He will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of life mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 76 Menands Rd, Albany, NY at 9 AM on Saturday, August 21. It will be followed by an interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Watervliet.
