William Lair
Fink
Sep 25, 1931 — Nov 30, 2023
William Fink was born to Carl and Myrtle Fink in Missouri on September 25, 1931. He grew up in Wauconda, IL, attended Blackburn College and graduated from North Central, Naperville, in 1953. Following graduation, he served in the Army and then returned to teach and coach for thirty years at both the high school and community college levels. He married Phyllis Vollmer in 1954 and lived in Tinley Park for sixty years.
Bill was the loving father of Thomas (Sara) and Alan (Michelle); proud papa of Emma, Alese, Will and Henry Fink; caring uncle to Karla, Jim, Mary and Vicki; and loving brother to the late Marie Gorskey, the late Martha Kleinz and the late brother-in-law Richard Vollmer (Julie).
Bill was a dedicated runner long before running became trendy and kept busy with his chair canning hobby. He played tennis daily while enjoying the warmer winters in Florida, followed by happy hour where he demonstrated his affinity for dark beers. He was renowned for winning the family NCAA basketball pool every March and was a dedicated fan at all his grandchildren's sports games and activities. Bill was a committed environmentalist and personally planted thousands of trees to foster reforestation of old pastureland in Missouri.
