Will
Jackson Jr.
Apr 17, 1936 — Jan 17, 2024
Will Jackson Jr., a beacon of wisdom, kindness, and love, passed away on January 17, 2024, at the age of 87 in Evanston, Illinois. Born on April 17, 1936, in Carthage, Mississippi, Will was the cherished son of the late Zula and Will Jackson Sr. His life was a testament to the strength and closeness of family, having grown up with 13 siblings in a home full of life and laughter.
During Will's high school years he excelled playing basketball and it earned him a scholarship to Jackson State University where he graduated in 1961. His commitment to education and personal growth was a cornerstone of his character, one that he carried with him throughout his life.
After a fulfilling career with the Chicago Housing Authority, where he made significant contributions to the wellbeing of many families, Will retired and returned to his roots in Carthage, Mississippi.
He spent most of his retirement years in his childhood home before returning back to IL surrounded by memories and people he loved dearly as well.
Will's presence was a source of stability and guidance for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and respect, cherished by his two sisters, Minnie Yancy and Lillie Claybrooks, his brother Wesley Jackson. Deanne D Jackson (wife), three children, Marlon Chapman (son), Anthony C. Jackson (son) and Nicole D Jackson (daughter). He was also a wonderful grandfather, and meant so much to his numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and extended family members who feel the profound loss of such a guiding light in their lives.
Will's passion for sports was undeniable. He enjoyed playing basketball and tennis, and he was an avid sports fan, often found cheering on his favorite teams with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. His love for the game was infectious, and his competitive spirit was always accompanied by a sense of fair play and camaraderie.
Those who knew Will understood the power of his quiet wisdom. His advice was sought after and his words carried weight, not because he spoke the loudest, but because he spoke with sincerity and genuine concern for others. His kindness was a constant, a trait that made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond.
Will Jackson Jr. lived a life marked by compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to his family. His passing leaves a void that will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Will's life story is a reminder that the most profound impact one can leave on the world is through acts of love, kindness, and the wisdom shared with those around us.
As we bid farewell to Will, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by enduring friendships, a loving family, and the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit. Though he may be gone from our sight, the memories and lessons he imparted will remain with us, guiding us like a lighthouse in the hearts of those who loved him. Will Jackson Jr.'s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of joy, love, and the warmth of his presence, a tapestry that will be cherished and honored for generations to come.
