Werner Willi Mayer passed away peacefully on May 31. 2023. He was born in Oberboihingen, Germany to Gertrude (Stephan) and Ludwig Mayer on 12/15/38. After immigrating to the United States in 1954, Werner lived in Harvey Illinois, and later in Schaumburg Illinois. He served proudly in the US army, and was stationed in Bamberg, Germany

Werner worked at Lufthansa Airlines until his retirement. His lifelong passion was sports and in particular, soccer. As a younger man he enjoyed playing soccer in the Chicago area with various club teams, and with the Lufthansa employee team. Werner got much joy from watching soccer games and following his favorite team, Bayern Munich as well as all Chicago professional teams.

Werner was proceeded in death by his mother, father, step father Andreas Kostyra and niece Kristina Foster. He is survived by his dear sister, Waltraud Gottschling and her husband Alexander, nephew Norbert and wife Gail Gottschling, his son, Kurt, his granddaughter, Briana and her mother, Michelle.
