Obituary

Verndell Nathan Smith, 72, was born to the late Nathan & Margie Smith on August 1, 1952, and went into heavenly rest on November 28, 2024.

Verndell was the fourth child of seven and was raised in Elizabeth, NJ. He attended the Elizabeth school system, where he was known for coming in the front door and leaving out the back. Verndell was a joy and blessing to everyone he came into connection with, which would be many.

At the age of 19, Verndell started his journey to be a successful entrepreneur. He joined American Community Services as a salesman and the rest was history. He traveled all over the United States of America while teaching, training, and motivating young adults to be successful and work for themselves. After years of moving up the ranks, his mentor decided it was time for him to create something of his own.

He created his own magazine sales company called Connection 2000. He was known for connecting people with opportunities that changed their lives. In his first year in business, his company saw success in generating over a half million in revenue.

Verndell loved music and is well known for pulling up in the latest Cadillac playing The Whispers. He believed that if you looked your best, you'd do your best. One could always catch him looking fly in his designer suits and sharp shoes.

After retiring from his business, Verndell moved to Vegas where he lived until this year. Verndell loved family and always could be counted on for his presents and his presence. Affectionately called "Duck" to most of his family and friends. Verndell loved celebrating his children's accomplishment. No matter where he was, he made sure he was in Chicago and never missed an accomplishment or milestone. He never missed a parade and proudly wore his son's company, Ultimate Threat, gear any and everywhere he went.

Verndell is preceded in death by his son, Verndell Smith II, and sister Barbara Bowen.

Verndell is survived by his wife, Renee Moore, his four brothers; Rodney, Wayne (Gail), Gregory, Shawn (Andrea)and one sister Dawn (John), his son: Abdul Page (Marianna), and his daughter, LaToya Smith. He had 9 grandchildren: Brandon, Kiara, Zahrya, Naimh, Khaliq, Zaniya, Verndell III, Zahana, and Zalani, 4 great grandchildren Kanan, Knoah, Kalen, and Emily, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
