"Enjoy life to the fullest"
Vasudev Devji Unadkat, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois surrounded by his loving family.
Vasudev Devji Unadkat (Pappa) was born in Karachi, British India into a family of 5 siblings. At the age of 11, in 1947 during the India-Pakistan partition, he was uprooted from his familial home in Karachi (present day Pakistan) and forced to immigrate to Mumbai, India. Starting from scratch in Mumbai, he studied to become a physician and built a thriving family medical practice. He married Varsha (mummy) on May 11, 1971. Together, through life's joys and sorrows, they cared for their aging parents and raised two children - Shital and Jignesh. As head of the household, Pappa took pride in juggling a busy career as a doctor, managing his hospital, and being a loving husband and father with unfailing grit and enthusiasm. After mummy's passing in 2010, he moved to America to be closer to family. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking and found joy in watching his children and grandchildren relish in his homemade Indian desserts such as Rasgulla and Kajukatli. He also took up painting in his free time, taking great pride in impressing others with his talent. Extremely social and talkative, Pappa had many close friends at the community center in New
Jersey. With an impressive memory, he could vividly recall conversations from years past, treasuring these lasting bonds. Pappa truly embodied the spirit of living life to the fullest.
He is survived by his son, Jignesh Unadkat, daughter-in-law, Kavita Unadkat, and grandchildren Grishma and Nikhil; his daughter Shital Shah, son-in-law Palak Shah, and grandchildren Dev and Rishi.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Bohemian National Cemetery's Chapel, 5255 N Pulasky, Chicago, IL 60630. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your local food bank.
