Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Timothy (Tim) Patrick Toan announces his unexpected passing on March 28, 2025 at the age of 67.

His loss is deeply felt by his loving wife Julie,(nee: Gurkowski), daughters Devin (Ty), Emily, his son Kyle (Ciara) and his granddaughter Esme Jule.

He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia (Perkins) Washington, his father Wayne Alvin Toan and his brother Stephen Toan.

He is survived by his loving brother David (Wendy), sisters Patti (Mark) Conway and Mary Wilson Zytko, sister in law Joyce (late Stephan), Aunt Virginia, Lowecki, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and adoring in-laws.

Tim was a lifelong resident of Oak Park, Illinois. He attended Emerson Elementary (72) and Oak Park River Forest High School (76). Tim was a Second Generation Oak Parker, and he loved the community. He was proud to raise his family there. Tim met his wife, Julie in '82, when Julie worked at a local hardware store. Their deep love for each other was obvious to all who knew them, during their 43 years together.

Their home, which they renovated top to bottom, became the family gathering place for holidays and celebrations. Tim loved to cook and entertain. He was known for creating wonderful meals and pizzas in his outdoor kitchen year round.

He was devoted to his large extended family and was extremely proud of his children. One of Tim's greatest joys was becoming a grandfather to Esme, the two of them would light up when they saw each other.

Tim studied hospitality at Triton College before venturing into many other fields of work. Tim was a worker, and his career path included many things. Tim ultimately became a member of the IUEC Elevator Constructors Local 2, in1980. He was a noted member of the elevator community, where he was a well respected mentor and innovator.

After years in the elevator business, Tim ventured off and started his own elevator design and

consulting business. In addition he developed a patent for a revolutionary elevator braking system.

The loss of this wonderful man is felt deeply by family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and the many people he connected with through his years. Tim's was truly a life well lived.

His friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Tim's life in the way he would want to be remembered - as a loving and caring man who enjoyed life.

A celebration of Tim's life will be held on 10/3/25 from 4:30p-8:30p at Thatcher Woods Pavilion 8030 Chicago Ave River Forest Il 60305
