Born on May 25, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of James and Josephine Cotter, Tom was a man of warmth, humor, and boundless curiosity.
Tom's early years in Detroit laid a foundation for a life characterized by a love for the Earth's mysteries, prompting his pursuit of a degree in Geology at Eastern Michigan University. His academic endeavors were a testament to his fascination with the natural world, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
After college, Tom's career path was as varied as it was impressive. He worked as a Geologist, exploring the very terrain that had captivated him as a young man. His drive to build and create led him to a successful stint as a Builder. His analytical mind found its way into the world of commodities trading, and ultimately, he embraced the technological era as a Computer Programmer. Tom's professional life was as multifaceted as the man himself, marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence.

He was a cherished brother to Timothy(Maureen), Terry(Gisella), Mary Kay, Barbara(Derek), and Tracy(Susie). An uncle to several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. The mother of his children, Susan Cowan was very supportive during Tom's illness. Tom had so many great friends, he will be missed by so many. Family and friends meant the world to him, and he was a pillar of strength, love, and laughter in their lives.
Tom's legacy is not just in the careers he had or the knowledge he acquired, but in the moments shared, the lives brightened, and the laughter spread. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will be a treasure locked in the hearts of his family and friends.
