Therese Deon
Johnson-Hughes
Jul 3, 1977 — May 6, 2024
On July 3, 1977, Therese Deon Johnson-Hughes, affectionately known as "Ree/Twin" was born the youngest twin, to the proud parents of Toni Johnson and Harry Brown, Sr. in Chicago, Illinois. Therese was baptized at an early age at New Israelite M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Willie C. Austin. Therese attended Mark Twain Elementary School and graduated from Curie Metro High School and was a member of the marching and concert band (as a clarinet player), during her high school years. She attended South Suburban Community College where she successfully obtained an Associates in Arts, majoring in Education: elementary & secondary. Therese also received numerous teaching awards and certifications.
In the year 2001, Therese met the love of her life-Lee Hughes Sr. Their blended family consists of 6 children 5 grandchildren and one granddog-'Kato'. Therese loved spending time with children and being in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Therese had a love for R&B music and for dancing, especially 'Steppin' and line dancing. Therese was a gorgeous wise woman with her own sense of style (anyone that knew Therese, knows what that means)! She was a loving and beautiful person, who accepted everyone. Therese was deeply loyal to her family and friends, and was always there to support and encourage others.
Therese developed a passion for the growth and wellbeing of children while working at Cuddle Care Child Care Center. She continued to advance her career, educating and assisting children with special needs- devoted to seeing the children blossom (one dear to her heart named "Mandy") at Wilma Rudolph Learning Center in Chicago, Illinois for over 19 years. Therese also adopted an entrepreneurial spirit with the development of a business-L and T Transport-alongside her husband Lee.
Therese had a sincere belief in honoring God in every area of her life. She was a dedicated member of Chicagoland Christian Center Church for over 20 years, faithfully serving on the Scholarship Committee.
Therese was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She transitioned peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 6, 2024, after a heroic fight with lung cancer.
