Steven Charles Schurr died on July 22, 2026 during a sudden and brief hospitalization. Steve was 69 years old. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Jackson High School in South Bend, IN in 1975. He was an excellent pianist at a young age and began playing professionally with the Tony Barron Orchestra when he was in high school. He attended DePauw University where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, graduating with honors and a B.S. in Chemistry in 1979. His first job after school was at Miles Laboratory in Elkhart, IN. After moving to the the Bay Area of California, and several years in the contact lens industry, he decided to move back to Chicago and attend Loyola School of Law. He was a member of the Illinois and Indiana Bars for many years. He ran his own law firm, Schurr HealthCare, where he specialized in helping people navigate our complex medical and disability systems. He also spent many years as a monitor for FDA trials, most recently for Fortrea where he was proud of his work on clinical trials for new cancer treatments. He was always very interested in medical research and progress in fighting disease. Music, politics, law, and science were lifelong passions of his.
He was preceded in death by his partner Kimberly Boyle, his younger brother, James Elmer Schurr, and his parents, Richard and Joellen Schurr. He is survived by his brother Mark, his sister Lisa (David), two nephews and two nieces, his special friend, Mary Miller, and his godson Sheriff Ndiaye. He appreciated the support of Rev. Paul Miller, his spiritual advisor. He is missed by his extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Michael J Fox Foundation. There will be a private interment service for Steve for close friends and family.
