Stephen Michael Sommer

With love, and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stephen Michael Sommer.  Devoted Christian, father, grandfather, friend, author, and educator.

Stephen was born January 27th 1958 in Castro Valley, California.  He passed on July 23rd, 2026 in Elmhurst Illinois.

A man of faith, love, and perseverance with a love for fantasy books, history, & science fiction. He always showed up for his family, no matter how tough life got. He was a self proclaimed "educator first, with a passion for helping others change their lives for the better". Even in life's darkest times, not once did he give up. A man with an extremely quick, and witty sense of humor, always caught you off guard and made you laugh. A brilliant mind with an itch to start a debate, you would never win! Throughout Stephen's entire life, he left a positive impact everywhere he stepped. Always showing support and care for those around him. He loved his children more than life itself and he would do anything just to spend more time. A true Christian man, and upstanding professional, intellectual and mentor. Stephen loved his books which surrounded him always. His last days were spent in his home, physicaly comfortable and in good spirits with a positive outlook on the near and distant future.

Stephen is survived by his three adult children; Carey Stephen William Sommer, Mireille Anne Wickey(Sommer) Reed Michael Wayne Sommer, and the mother of his children, friend, and life partner of the last 31 years, Monique Teres Sommer. His family will carry on his legacy by spreading love, compassion, and by helping others in need.

A private family service to honor Stephen will be held on July 29th, 2026.
