Shirley Ann Tucker was born on March 8, 1936 in Chicago, IL.
to the union of Johnny and Lottie Smoot. She was the third of
four daughters. Two sisters, Virginia May Smoot and Dorothy
Lee Scott preceded her in death.
Shirley graduated from Wendall Phillips High School in Chicago
in June of 1954. On December 31, 1965, she married the late
Charles Eugene Tucker, whose son Juan Pierre Tucker became
Shirley's "bonus son".
Shirley's career included the U.S. Department of Treasury, The
American Hospital Association, and the University of Chicago
Research Department, from which she retired.
Shirley's family loved music and dancing, and Shirley often
spoke of her dear friend, Liz James, with whom she and her
sisters enjoyed dancing with for hours. Although Shirley also
enjoyed playing cards with friends, family always came first,
especially in providing care for her beloved sister Dorothy
during her illness. Throughout their lifetime, Shirley and her
"baby" sister, Carol Ann were always close, but they became
more devoted to each other during their senior years.
Although, Shirley was not baptized, from her study of the Bible
with Jehovah's Witnesses, attending the Annual Memorial of
Jesus Christ's death, weekly meetings and assemblies, Shirley
expressed her faith and hope in the resurrection of her family.
She knew from studying God's Word the Bible (John 5:28
Revelation 21:4) that they were "just asleep" and Shirley would
see them again.
Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memory: her "bonus son"
Juan Pierre Tucker (Venetta); one "bonus grandson" Joshua L.
Tucker; one sister, Carol Spinks; one "bonus sister" Wanda
Creeks (Spinks).
Three nieces; Joyce Crump (Tucker), Sondra DuBoise, and Tonya
Hughes, (Levonne); two nephews; Gregory Tucker (Joann) and
James Spinks III.
Three great nieces; Shaunda Gadsden, Andria DuBoise and
Jasmine Spinks; Ten great nephews; Freddie Edmonds (Lisa),
Keith Ison (Spinks), Kenneth Foster (Spinks), Brandon Shuler
(Spinks), Kevin Foster (Spinks), Randi Foster (Spinks), Darrion
Gadsden (Edmonds), Deshaun Gadsden (Edmonds), Dakota
Gadsden (Edmonds) and Jamarie Green (Edmonds).
Two great-great nephews; Brison Deleon (Spinks) and Omar
Trujillo (Spinks); Two great-great nieces; Ashdyn Breford
(Edmonds) and Milan Andrews (DuBoise), and a host of other
relatives and close friends.
