Sandra Marie
Hanson
Feb 26, 1961 — Jan 9, 2023
With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Sandra Marie Hanson (née Motykiewicz) on Monday, January 09th, 2023. She left us at just 61 years of age. Her final moments were spent surrounded by her loved ones: her husband, Dennis; her youngest daughter, Heather, and Heather's husband, Seth Lehman; and her eldest daughter, Jennifer, and Jennifer's husband, Evan Peterson, who joined via video call from Australia. Sandy is also survived by her two young granddaughters, Ava and Eliza Peterson, her father, Norbert (Donna) Motykiewicz, and her two sisters, Laura Craft and Teresa (late Russell) Smith.
Sandy was born on February 26th, 1961 in Chicago, IL to Norbert and Bernadette Motykiewicz (née Holowicki). She was the middle child of their three girls, and also had a half-sister, (late) Kristen Motykiewicz.
Sweet-natured, warm, and unconditionally welcoming, Sandra touched the lives of all who knew her. This included her best friends / "sisters," Paula Hain and Lori Carter, and her "second family" at Abbott Laboratories, where she worked for over 20 years. Her hearty laugh (cackle), twinkling green eyes, bright smile, and memorable pink-red lips will be deeply missed at every future family gathering and Abbott reunion.
Sandy loved her scrappy dog, Levi, who has been a faithful companion for 12 years. Despite Sandy's struggles with health issues over the years, she never lost her sense of wonder and joy, finding beauty in the simple things, like sitting in her garden or watching the geese and boats on Lake Michigan. She also loved elaborately decorating her home for every important holiday, right down to the tea towels. Sandy especially loved Christmas – from her perfectly decorated rotating tree, to her life-like winter village display, complete with fake snow. She had even recently returned to her love of baking homemade Christmas cookies. Sandy's love for life and all its celebrations were contagious to her family and friends.
Join us to honor Sandy's life at a memorial service to be held on Saturday, January 21st, 2023 at Symonds Lakes Funeral Home (111 W Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030).
