Obituary

Ruth Jeanette Snyder, age 101, of Deerfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025 at Trulee Senior Living in Evanston, where she moved at age 97.

Born on May 27, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, Ruth was the only child of Hilda and Richard Olson, both Swedish immigrants. Ruth married Robert Snyder (Bob) in 1948. In 1953 they moved to the home that Bob and his army buddies built on Elmwood Ave in Deerfield.

Ruth and Bob were Elmwood Avenue fixtures until Bob's death in 2004 and Ruth's move to Trulee in 2022

She is survived by her three daughters and their families , Joanne (Kansas City Mo.), Carol (Stockholm, Sweden), and Nancy (Evanston, Illinois); their spouses, Smitty, Gunnar, and Matthew; her six grandchildren, Nicole, Sarah, Timothy, Hannah, Malin, and Reed; and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. They adored her as much or more.

Ruth worked as executive secretary at DiPietro Plumbing Corp for 20+ years. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, where she served as both a Deacon and a Friendly for many years. She maintained a strong connection with her Swedish heritage, volunteering at the Swedish Museum in Chicago and passing along Swedish culture and customs to her family. Ruth's passion for sewing was matched only by her lifelong devotion to the Chicago Cubs. A generous neighbor, Ruth always had time for a cup of coffee, a game of Scrabble, Cribbage, or a round of Bridge. Her quick wit and funny retorts won her many devotees among the staff of Trulee Evanston.

Her legacy of warmth, kindness, and dedication to family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held in October.
