Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Kevin Patch, affectionately known as Dick, Dad, Grandpa, and "The Dicksters," who passed away on May 15, 2026. Dick was born to Theonell Hanrahan Patch and Richard Earl Patch in the city of Chicago on November 15, 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Patch; his sister, Rita Louise Harrity; and his aunt, Rosemary Hanrahan Wegner.

Dick grew up in Chicago, where he attended St. Clement Grade School and DePaul High School in Lincoln Park. He loved growing up in the city, surrounded by friends and sports. As a child, his mother and aunt would take him on train rides to New York, exposing him to the theater, which he loved.

He graduated from Loyola University, where he played basketball and majored in English Literature. Dick had a strong work ethic and got his first job at the age of eight. He eventually went on to spend 25 years with Sears, becoming a Marketing Director in the Sears Tower.

Dick loved his Chicago sports teams, the Bears and the Cubs; and for the Cubs to win the world series in his lifetime was unforgettable. But, the joy of his life was his beloved family

Dick is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Patch Barry (Kim); his son-in-law, Rob Barry; his granddaughters, Alexandra ("Ale") Barry and Erica Barry; his wife, Sheryl Busch (Sheri); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dick was enthusiastically young at heart in all that he did, and he can be fondly remembered quoting the late Satchel Page… "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you would be?"

In honor of Dick's wishes, please raise a glass in his memory. A private celebration of life and disposition of ashes will be held by the family.
