Richard Palmer
Olson
Jul 18, 1953 — May 19, 2025
Richard Palmer Olson (Rich), beloved father, partner, brother, and friend, passed away on May 19, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 71.
Born in Aberdeen, Washington on July 18, 1953, Rich lived a life marked by curiosity, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. A proud alumni of Lewis and Clark College, where he excelled at distance running, he went on to dedicate his professional career to the evolving world of technology, where his intellect and expertise earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers.
Outside of work, Rich found great joy in nature, traveling and being at the family cabin. An avid hiker and lifelong enthusiast, he spent countless hours exploring the outdoors, always with a pair of binoculars at hand and an eye trained on the treetops in search of birds. His love of birding was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of his wonder and reverence for the world around him.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Leslie Olson. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Merritt Olson (Steve Baer) and their children Sylvia, Louise, and Reed; and Paige Olson (Garrett Smith) and their children Astrid and Lucian. He also leaves behind his girlfriend of 22 years, Barbara Mueller. Richard is also survived by his brothers, Gordon Olson and Fredrick Olson.
Celebration of life details to follow.
