Obituary

Reece D. Conrad, 52, passed away in Chicago on August 20, 2023 after a brief illness.

Reece was born in Elkhart, Indiana to David D. Conrad and Diane E. (Smoker) Conrad on June 14, 1971, he was the baby of their 6 children.

Reece met his wife, Rebecca Matey, while they were both teaching English in Japan. They were married August 19, 2000. Rebecca said that it was love at first sight when they first met, at least for her; Reece was oblivious to the special attention she was throwing his way . . . but that was Reece! Reece loved adventure and travel. He did one year of high school in Japan, then returned after college graduation to teach for 3 years. He also traveled to Thailand and Cambodia. They made their home in Chicago after returning from Japan.

Reece was a 1989 graduate of Concord High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University. He was an Engineer for RCN Metro for many years working in fiber optics. For the past couple years, he did consulting work.

Reece is survived by his wife, his mother, 3 sisters, Roxanne Dunn of Greer, South Carolina, Rosalie (Jon) Chevalier of Goshen, Indiana, Rochelle (Duane) Myers of Elkhart, Indiana, and one brother (his partner in crime and friend), Ryan Conrad of Silver Lake, Indiana, plus numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Reece was preceded in death by his father and brother Rickson Conrad.

Reece was independent and valued his personal time and space, he was a quiet guy, however, when he spoke, we all enjoyed his snarky and sarcastic comments . . . seems to be our family love language. As family was reminiscing, we all had stories of a visit or two to Chicago and how Reece was always happy to show you around and treat you to a nice meal. He liked nothing better than the freedom of riding a motorcycle through the hills of a new country and stopping to take pictures. Prior to his passing, Reece and Rebecca had been planning their next adventure of a driving trip through Britain. He was greatly loved and will be missed. A memorial service is being planned for a future date.
