Raymond Joseph O'Malley of Buffalo Grove, IL passed away on February 29, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born on April 11, 1941, in Jersey City, NJ he was one of five children born to Florence Corcoran and Patrick Joseph O'Malley. He attended Dickinson High School and in 1961 joined the US Navy, he served as an Electronics Technician on the USS William C. Lawe during the blockade of Cuba.
An alumnus of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle, Ray studied Electrical Engineering and was a proud founding member of the Vets Club.
A true outdoorsman, Ray had a poetic love of nature. He was a lifelong hunter and enjoyed target shooting.
Ray is survived by his wife of 55 years Cornelia (née Miller), daughter Shannon (Michael) Garrity and granddaughter Maeve.
Preceded in death by his older brother Robert and brother-in-law Henry 'Sonny' Bartels, he leaves behind three younger siblings Richard (Frank Perea), Patricia (Richard) Statile and Regina O'Malley along with three nephews Rick (Lara) Statile, Mike (Stacey) Statile and Dan (Lindsay) Statile.
In keeping with his wishes, Ray will be cremated. Forever a Jersey City kid, his remains will be brought home to the Jersey City salt marshes where he loved to hunt in his youth.
