Obituary

Randy Petersen (née Block) passed away surrounded by family in Evanston, Illinois, on September 13th after a lengthy battle with COPD. Randy was born in Chicago on July 1st, 1953, to Mort and Ginger Block. Her parents and her grandparents (who preceded her in death), and her brother Marty (who survives her) provided a very tight, supportive and loving family environment.    Randy grew up in Skokie and spent most of her adult life in Northbrook, Lake Zurich, and Buffalo Grove. Professionally, Randy was a natural saleswoman who in her career sold everything from print advertising to business security systems. A lifelong Democrat, her passion for progressive politics culminated in an invitation to the Obama White House for a Hannukah party where she discussed gardening with First Lady Michelle.  But Randy most loved being a mom.  She cherished her son Luke (and his wife, Lacey) and her daughter Karolyn.  And how she loved her grandchildren, Ginger, Dylan, and Chloe.  Her family and her dear friends meant everything to her. And she cared deeply for her pets, too, from her first puppy, Buffy, to her last, her tiny soulmate, Harlow.   A Celebration of Randy's life will be held later this year. Her children will reach out to friends and relatives with further information once it is available.
