Peggy Ann Galligani

It is with great sadness that we announce the transition to the afterlife of Peggy “Peg” Anne Galligani, 60, of Illinois, on September 8, 2026, following a brief illness. Peggy was called to Heaven peacefully at a family home and was surrounded by family, friends, loved ones, and pets in her final days.

Peggy was born on December 6, 1965, in Chicago, IL to Thomas Robert Galligani and Virginia Agnes Galligani (née Ozenbaugh). She grew up with two siblings, surrounded by humor and love. Peggy built a life of love, kindness, generosity, and, most importantly, a deep connection to and love for all animals.

Peggy knew how to tell a good joke, have a good laugh, and love deeply. She threw the best parties, and her love for animals knew no bounds. Peggy had a particularly special bond with a pair of mated cranes, who, over the years, brought their babies to meet her. She said nightly prayers for her beloved neighborhood birds, cranes, squirrels, fox, and other wildlife. Her days were filled with birdwatching, caring for local wildlife, and ensuring those around her felt cared for, loved, and special. Her spark for life will be sorely missed.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Virginia Galligani; beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many cherished pets. Peggy is survived by her brother, Robert “Bobby” (Ann) Galligani; brother, Daniel “Danny” Galligani; sister-in-law, “sister,” and best friend, Jill Bonavia-Galligani; niece, Sara Galligani; niece and goddaughter, Marianna Galligani; nephew, Thomas “T.J.” Galligani; pet cat, Sweet Baby Daisy; close cousin, Kathy, and many other loving cousins; dear friends; and beloved animals.

Peggy will be remembered for the love, light, and laughter she carried with her. A private celebration of life is to follow. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Peggy’s legacy through kindness to animals. If so inclined, donations can be made to The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
