Pedro Miguel
Orta Couzo
Jun 8, 1955 — Feb 19, 2024
Pedro Miguel Orta Couzo, embarked on his final journey, on February 19, 2024. Born under the Cuban sun in the vibrant city of Havana on June 8, 1955, Pedro's journey through life's undulating waves has come to rest in Chicago, Illinois.
Pedro was a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division, where he served with honor and distinction. His love for this country was but one facet of his many passions. An avid reader, Pedro particularly enjoyed books about history and science. He also loved public radio, jazz and the finer things in life.
Pedro reveled in the collection of random facts and enjoyed to share those small treasures of trivia with those around him.
Pedro's legacy is cherished by a constellation of loved ones: his wife, Lidia Couzo; his beloved daughter, Veronica Couzo Kamenjarin, and her husband, Nick Kamenjarin; his granddaughters, the young and vivacious Violet and Penelope Kamenjarin, who were the apples of his eye; his younger brother, Gerardo Benigno Couzo, with whom he shared the unspoken bond of siblings; and his nephews, Gerardo and Carlos Couzo, and niece, Amber Couzo, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
As we bid farewell to this complicated soul, we remember the words of John Donne, who wrote, "One short sleep past, we wake eternally, And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die." Pedro's spirit now soars into eternity where he will be embraced by his father, Pedro Couzo, his mother, Emilia Couzo, and his younger brother, Carlos Couzo.
His memory will live on in those who loved him.
