Obituary

Patricia Mary (Zuber) Duda, age 86, of Morton Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025.

Born on March 17, 1939, in Chicago, IL, Pat was the beloved daughter of Alphonse Zuber and Irene Mikes. She was a devoted wife to Raymond Anthony Duda, whom she married in 1962 and who preceded her in death in July 2012.

Pat was a loving and dedicated mother to Christopher (Carol Jud), Patrick (Pamela Hintz Duda), and Jennifer (Michael Reitz). She took great joy in being a grandmother to seven grandchildren: Ryan, Luke, Cole, Jake, Sara, Emma, and Jacob. Her heart was further filled with love by her five great-grandchildren—Ruby, Clarke, Atticus, Teagan, and Atlas—who affectionately called her "GiGi."

She was also preceded in death by her cherished sister, Susan (Zuber) Hassman, who passed away in September 2021.

Pat earned a degree in History from the University of Chicago, a testament to her lifelong love of learning. Though she worked outside the home for several years, her greatest commitment was to her family. She took immense pride in creating a warm, welcoming home where traditions thrived and holidays brought generations together.

Pat and Ray especially treasured family trips to Kentucky Lake, a tradition that continued with their grandchildren. Pat was a thoughtful and health-conscious person, though she had a sweet spot for cookies. She delighted in birdwatching—often from her kitchen window—where she generously fed birds and squirrels, who provided her with endless entertainment. She also found peace and beauty in her garden, spending many hours enjoying the flowers from her lawn chair.

She deeply enjoyed vacationing with her sister's family, relishing time with her nieces and nephews, and loved taking road trips to visit her children and grandchildren. Pat was a longtime member of the Chicago Botanic Garden and a devoted patron of the Drury Lane Theatre. Rarely without a book or tablet in hand, she found great happiness in reading.

Pat's legacy of love, warmth, and devotion to family lives on in those who were fortunate to know her.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other beloved family members and friends.
