Obituary

Oliverio R. Perez, a man who could turn a paperclip into a Swiss Army knife, a rubber band into a slingshot, a flood light and a car battery into a flashlight (don't ask how), passed away peacefully on August 30, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on June 17, 1939, in the town of Bananera in Morales-Izabal, Guatemala. Oliverio was proof that great things come from small places.

Oliverio wasn't just your average man, he was an exceptional man. Not surprising after an almost fatal accident he found a way to reinvent himself and never looked back. He was a wizard of wrenches, a sultan of screws, and drove his stick-shift with one arm. He spent his career as a mechanic, and although he retired, his love for tinkering never did. His creations were... well, let's just say they were unique. He was our very own MacGyver, with his bonus sense of humor.

Oliverio is survived by his son, Gilberto Perez Morales and his wife, Eva. His daughters Mildred Murillo and her husband, Anthony, and Alicia Torres and her husband, Roberto. He was a beloved grandfather to Gabriella, Roberto, Andrew, Raven, Sofia, Olivia, Simon and Eris. His grandchildren will always remember him as the man who could make anything cheap also fun.

Oliverio was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cornelia "Nelly" Perez who spoiled him with her amazing food all the time. Through it all, their love was as strong and enduring as one of his original creations.

To say he will be missed is an understatement, his laughter will echo in our hearts, his creativity will continue to inspire us, and his love will continue to live within us with all these great memories.

May his spirit continue to invent, to create, and to find laughter in his new workshop in the sky.
