In Loving Memory of Nina Minter
Nina Minter was a loving mother, a strong woman, and a person whose life was shaped by faith, family, struggle, tenacity, and love. She passed away on September 8, 2026, leaving behind memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Born on March 13, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Louis and Bernice Minter, Nina’s life was not always easy. She faced difficult seasons, obstacles, and struggles that tested her strength. Through it all, she kept moving forward and tried her best to do what she believed was right for the people she loved.
Above all else, Nina was a mother. Her two boys, Jonas and Rodney, were at the center of her heart. She wanted them to grow into good men, stay safe, make something of themselves, and avoid the hardships she had experienced. She worked to provide for them, protect them, guide them, and teach them right from wrong.
Nina was not perfect, but she was a mother who kept trying. Sometimes her love came through tough words, strong opinions, and hard lessons. She was outspoken and never afraid to say what was on her mind. One lesson she often repeated was that trouble was easy to get into and hard to get out of. Her warnings, especially to Jonas, whom she lovingly called Boo, came from experience, concern, and love.
Nina wanted her boys to have better. She wanted them to learn from life without being broken by it, make wise choices, look out for each other, and know that she believed they were capable of more.
Nina also knew how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. She loved soul food, soulful R&B music, and the comfort of home. She enjoyed watching The Price Is Right and Jeopardy. She could sing, and her voice was a special gift that those who knew her will always remember.
Nina had a personality that could fill a room. She was strong-willed, honest, outspoken, and loving in her own way. Beneath her strength was a woman who loved laughter, conversation, family, and making memories.
Her life included pain and difficult chapters, but those struggles do not define her entire story. Her story was also one of survival, resilience, perseverance, and love. She kept getting back up and continued trying to do better for herself and her family.
To Jonas and Rodney: Your mother may not have gotten everything right, but she loved you. She worried about you, prayed for you, and wanted you to be okay. As time passes, her lessons may become clearer. A song, a favorite meal, or an episode of Jeopardy or The Price Is Right may bring her voice and memory back to you.
When you remember Nina, remember more than the difficult times. Remember the mother who tried, the woman who loved you, her laughter, her voice, her music, her soul food, and the lessons she worked so hard to teach.
Nina leaves behind a legacy of resilience, sacrifice, and unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her parents; her longtime boyfriend, Rodney “HotRod”; her brothers, Chet, Cyrus, and Blanico Minter; and her beloved older sister, Jonie Minter, whom she considered her everything.
Her spirit lives on through her children, Jonas “Boo” and Rodney “Pudda”; her brothers, Louis and Peyton Minter; her grandchildren, Jonas Jr. “Truck,” Mariona “Mari,” and Raniyah; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, especially Sabrina and Ronald, who will miss her dearly.
Rest peacefully, Mom.
You fought through your own battles and carried burdens many people never knew about. Through all of life’s struggles, victories, regrets, laughter, and memories, you loved your boys.
Until we meet again, Mom, may you finally have the peace that life did not always give you.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
Forever My Momma ❤️
