Nancy Jean Melowitz, a beacon of love and intelligence, passed away at the age of 81 on September 23, 2025, in Barrington, IL, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on December 27, 1943, in Chicago, IL, to Karl and Lois Zinsmeister, Nancy lived a life defined by her kindness, her passion for knowledge, and her dedication to her loved ones.

Nancy's academic journey led her to Northern Illinois University, where she pursued her interests Education. Her love for books and learning was a guiding force throughout her life, leading her to a fulfilling career as a teacher. She also shared her organizational talents and interpersonal skills at a local bowling alley front desk and later in human resources, where she was highly regarded for her compassionate approach and wise counsel.

Nancy's interests were as vast as her intellect. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed delving into the twists and turns of mystery novels, a reflection of her inquisitive and analytical mind. Her hands were rarely idle, as she often could be found knitting baby blankets, a craft through which she expressed her love and creativity. Each stitch was a testament to her care and attention to detail, traits that were evident in every aspect of her life.

She was the cherished mother of Tammy Jakubowski and Todd Melowitz; the adored grandmother of Dylan Melowitz, Samantha Jakubowski, and Kayla Jakubowski; and the mother-in-law to Jeff Jakubowski. Nancy's siblings, Janet Price and Pete Price, Marcia and Mark VanDyke, shared in her life's journey as her supportive sisters and brothers-in-law. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, including Jen Price; Ryan and Katie Price (Jack and Cameron); Sarah and Ilir Shytilla (Emelia); Chris and Amber VanDyke (Colton and Luke); Phil and Becky VanDyke (Henry and Cora); Ken and Maki Duncan (Maya and Hailey); and Andrea Skofstad (Evan and Zoe), will fondly remember her for the wisdom and love she imparted.
