Moses Lee
Johnson
Dec 4, 1933 — Oct 17, 2025
Moses Lee Johnson, a cherished soul known fondly as "Mr. J" to friends and family, completed his earthly journey on October 17, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on December 4, 1933, in Butler, Alabama, he was a beacon of generosity, selflessness, and friendliness throughout his life. Moses passed away peacefully of natural causes in Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well-lived.
Moses's early years were spent in the nurturing care of his late parents, Sam Johnson and Sylvia Yarbrough, in the close-knit community of Butler, Alabama. After graduating from Industrial High School, he worked a few odd jobs including as an assemblyman at Ford Motor Company. From there he made the honorable decision to enlist and he dedicated 22 years of service to his country as an Air Force veteran, a testament to his unwavering patriotism and sense of duty.
Following his distinguished military career, Moses transitioned to civilian life with grace and diligence but needed to stay busy. He decided to contribute his skills as a plant worker at Diamond Shamrock and Oxy Chem, where he was known for his reliability and diligence.
Moses's life was marked by a profound love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mieko Johnson, and a guiding light to his sons, Michael, the eldest, and Roger, the youngest. His steadfast presence provided a foundation of strength and support that will continue to live on in their hearts.
A man of simple pleasures, Moses found joy in the soulful rhythms of Motown music, the heroic tales of Westerns, and the playful competition of game shows. His leisure time was often filled with the sounds of classic tunes, the excitement of on-screen adventures and an occasional pull of the penny slots.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Moses will remember him as a man who approached life with an open heart and open arms. His generosity knew no bounds, and his selfless acts of kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. His friendly demeanor was a constant source of comfort and warmth, making every interaction with him a cherished memory.
Moses's legacy is one of love, honor, and the joy of giving. He walked through life with a gentle strength that drew people to him, and he leaves behind a trail of friendships that span both time and distance.
As we bid farewell to Moses Lee Johnson, we celebrate a life that was filled with purpose, kindness, and an abundance of love. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be treasured forever. Moses's journey on earth may have concluded, but the impact of his time among us will resonate for generations to come.
