Michael Francis
Shaughnessy
Nov 22, 1958 — Jul 10, 2024
Michael Francis Shaughnessy, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on November 22, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, where he also passed. Mike's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, and his passion for his work.
Mike was the beloved husband of Eva (Becker) Shaughnessy, who together shared many years filled with laughter and love. He was a devoted son to Susan (Fitzgerald) Lee, and a brother to his sister, Terry Berger.
His legacy continues through his children Stacie (Shaughnessy) Johnson, Dawn (Shaughnessy) Meloney, Danielle Shaughnessy, and Tim Shaughnessy, and their partners Andrew Johnson, Johnny Meloney, Stephanie Gutierrez, Mike Reyes who will forever hold dear the values and joy he instilled in them. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Isaiah, Kaiser, Felix, and Arlo, who brought him boundless joy and will carry his memory in their hearts.
A proud graduate of Saint Margaret Mary on Oakley and Jarvis in Roger's Park, Mike enhanced his education through various trade schools, specializing in the automotive industry (Body Repair, Collison, Detailing, Pinstriping & Painter). His skillful hands and creative vision earned him a reputation as one of the top ten painters in Illinois, a distinction that spoke volumes about his dedication to his craft. Mike's professional life was marked by his exceptional work in the automotive industry. He was not only a detailer, painter, but an artist, leaving a touch of beauty on every project he undertook. He had an immense passion for his work in painting, it was not limited to his profession only but could be seen in everything from painting the children's pinewood derby cars, to antique tractors, to celebrity cars. He spent a lifetime working with, and on imperfections; his work was not yet done but we can only imagine how beautiful the finish would be if he had more time.
Those who knew Mike understood his love for his family; he showed that through gifts and acts of service whether that be fishing with the kids or cooking elaborate meals. Mike's friends will remember him as creative, friendly, and funny, qualities that made him a joy to be around. His laughter and light-heartedness brightened most days, and his ability to quote National Lampoon Vacation movies could bring a smile to even the most stoic face.
His children recall him as a kind, and funny father; there's a common theme that threads the memories of his family. The theme of laughter, warmth, and good conversation. Mornings with the newspaper comics, evenings by the fireplace, and everything in-between. Above all, he had a way of making each holiday season something beyond magical for his entire family.
As we say goodbye to Mike Shaughnessy, we celebrate a life lived with passion, love, kindness and humor; with each day he will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Mike's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all the lives he touched with his generous heart and friendly disposition.
Let us honor Mike by embracing each day with joy, as he would have loved for us. Though he has left this world, the stories, the laughter, and the love he shared will continue to live within us. Rest in peace, Mike; your memory will forever be a blessing.
