MAXE A. OBERMEYER, JR. (JANUARY 10, 1937 – DECEMBER 8, 2019) Maxe was born January 10, 1937 in Jacksonville, Illinois, moved to Ypsilanti in 1946, graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1955, Eastern Michigan University (BA in 1959) and first editor of The Echo, EMU's student newspaper and member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. At EMU he met Terry Dolengo to whom he was married for 60 years. Maxe taught school for 7 years, began his real estate profession at Obermeyer Realty then Broker and Owner of Landmark Realty. He loved that in his 50+ years he sold homes to 4 generations of Ypsi families. He was civic minded and served as Trustee of Ypsilanti Historical Society, member of the 1825 Founders Society, Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Realtors, Ypsilanti Rotary Club, and Jaycees. He served on Washtenaw County Social Services Board, Ypsilanti Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals, Ypsilanti Board of Education (Pres) and St. John's Catholic School Board. An ACBL Life Master and bridge teacher, Maxe played competitively at home as well as abroad. He and Terry loved to travel. Maxe found his spiritual home in the Catholic Church and was baptized in 1962 and was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and EMU's Holy Trinity Student Parish. He was an ardent supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Shriner Hospitals for Children. Maxe and Terry had moved to Lincolnwood, Illinois, near daughter Meg and her family, in November of this year. He died in hospice care surrounded by family. Survived by his loving wife Terry, children: Elizabeth and her son Charley; Jim (April), their sons Mike and Matt; Chuck (Maria), their children Brandon, Lauren (Connor) Seagraves, and Nick; Meg (Rick) Slayton and their children Andy, Ryan, and Mira. He is also survived by his sister Judith Walker, brother Jon (Anne), and many nieces and nephew. He will be greatly missed by family and friends who enjoyed his stories and jokes and the kind and loving concern he had for each of us. A celebration of life service will be scheduled in spring 2020.
