Obituary

With hearts broken, we share the loss of our beloved Martin "Marty" Zeffield, 62, who died of heart failure on Januray 10, 2026.

Marty was special to many. Devoted and adoring husband to Karen; loving father to Kimberly and Kevin; doting and immensely proud grandfather of Sophia; son to Leo Martin and Georgiana Zeffield; brother to Christine (Tom), Valerie (deceased), Andrew, and Elaine (Mark), he was also a godfather, uncle, cousin, nephew, and a dear friend.

Growing up on the north side of Chicago, Marty met his wife and best friend, Karen Wenglarz, during their freshman year at Kelvyn Park High School in 1978. Their love story led to 40 wonderful years of marriage, spent raising their children and building a life centered on family.

Marty found his greatest joy in spendimg time with his children. When they were young, he was known for piggyback rides, and occasionally pulling his wife's pantyhose over his head to chase them around the house. Weekends in the Zeffield home often meant ordering Chinese food and watching The Munsters or horror movies together.

He loved being the family cameraman, always capturing special moments so they could be remembered forever. Marty eagerly looked forward to family reunions, firmly believing that family was the most important thing in life. He was also a true social butterfly, he made friends wherever he went and maintained those relationships. Up until the day he passed, Marty could be found making his rounds calling his family and friends to see how they were doing.

Marty's legacy lives on in the laughter he created, the memories he preserved, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit remains present in every story shared, every gathering of loved ones, and every moment spent together—just as he would have wanted.
