Obituary

Marcella Smilie of Grayslake, a cherished soul known for her warmth and dexterity in both her personal and professional life, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 94, in Park Ridge. Born on May 24, 1931, in Chicago, Marcie's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and loving nature.

Marcie was the beloved widow of Henry Smilie, and together they built a life rich in love and family values. She was a devoted mother to Susan, Hank and his wife Donna, Steven and his wife Lynn, and John. Her legacy extended to her adoring grandchildren, Don and Lori, Danielle, and her husband P.A., Breanne and her wife Jessica, Johnny, Bella, and Joseph, who brought immense joy to her life. Marcie also embraced the role of great-grandmother with open arms, cherishing every moment spent with Payton, Maddux, Addison, and Clark.

Professionally, Marcie was known as an accomplished seamstress, a craft that allowed her to touch the lives of many with her talent and attention to detail. Her career also spanned the banking industry, where her integrity and dedication were valued by colleagues and clients alike. Marcie's commitment to her work was paralleled only by her involvement in her church and community, where she was a beacon of Christian faith and service.

Marcie's interests painted the picture of a life lived with passion and purpose. An avid gardener, she found solace and joy in the tranquility of her garden, nurturing plants with the same care and love she gave to her family. Her prowess as an excellent baker was no secret among friends and family, who looked forward to her delightful creations on every special occasion. An animal lover through and through, Marcie's little dog Gabby was a constant companion and source of comfort.

Her appreciation for nature was evident in her love of watching birds, a pastime that reflected her patient and observant nature. Above all, Marcie's love for God was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and giving her strength throughout her life.

As we bid farewell to Marcie Smilie, we celebrate a life profoundly lived and a woman dearly loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her and be graced by her kindness. Marcie's spirit, characterized by her faith, love, and the beauty she cultivated in this world, will forever be cherished and remembered.
