Lillie
Shokunbi
Aug 24, 1954 — Dec 5, 2025
I bring to you the heartfelt news of the passing of an extraordinary individual, amazing friend, colleague, and caring mother, Lillie Faye Shokunbi.
Known fondly as Faye to her friends, family, and loved ones, Faye departed on December 5, 2025, at the age of 71 to join the Lord Almighty in Heaven as an angel to always protect and watch over us all.
Born on August 24, 1954, Faye was one of several children to Geraldine & James Miller. She leaves a host of brothers, sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, a granddaughter, and a loving family. Faye married Frank Shokunbi and to this union was born her two sons, Joshua, and Caxton Shokunbi. Faye's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and dedication to helping those she cared for.
A proud alumna of DePaul University, Faye earned her Bachelor's degree in 2018 after taking a long break from school for several years to be the best Mother possible to her 2 sons, Joshua, and Caxton.
As a career, Faye successfully worked for the University of Illinois at Chicago for 25 years as a Grants & Contracts specialist, making many friends, and memories in the process.
Her excellence in this role was recognized time and again as she was the recipient of multiple awards for her outstanding performance, setting a benchmark for professionalism and integrity in her field.
Faye was a devout Christian, whose faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She lived her beliefs through her actions, often helping the homeless, participating on the parents school board for both her sons when they were in middle school, and her generous, courageous, and selfless nature made her a great mentor to all who knew her.
Her interests were as diverse as they were rich. Faye was passionate about modeling in her younger years, and secretly enjoyed playing guitar and drawing as a hobby.
Faye's zest for life was apparent through her love for exploring new restaurants, and exploring the big city of Chicago which she loved.
But above all, it was her time with friends and family that Faye cherished the most. The moments shared, the laughter, the conversations, and the memories- these were the treasures she held dear.
Fayes's legacy is one of love, care, and the courage to face each day with the intention of helping others.
As we say farewell to Lillie Faye Shokunbi, we celebrate a life lived and a journey to Heaven. Her impact on the lives she touched is immeasurable, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Faye's story is not one of loss, but a celebration of a life that was well-lived, and the positive imprint she left to those close to her will never be forgotten
As we grieve Faye's departure, may we all find comfort in the knowledge that her spirit lives on, not only in the memories we hold, but also with the understanding that Faye is watching over us, always.
