Obituary

In the warm embrace of her beloved city, Chicago, Illinois, we bid farewell to Laverne Sebastian, a woman whose heart overflowed with love, kindness, and an infectious friendliness. On June 19, 2023, Laverne peacefully embarked on her next journey, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories. Born on March 20, 1933, she lived a vibrant life that spanned 90 years, touching countless souls with her extraordinary warmth and benevolence.

Laverne was born in Chicago to Theodore and Violet Gessler and was the eldest of four sisters: Arlene Shirley (aka Dolly) Gessler (Richard F. Schueller) who passed away on March 23, 1999, Patricia Gessler (Herman Anton Dahme Jr.), and Sandra Marlene Gessler.

Laverne's thirst for knowledge was ignited during her time at Lakeview High School in Chicago, where she nurtured a love for learning and an appreciation for the wonders of the world. As she embarked on her journey as a mother, her son Harry Mark Sebastian (fondly known as Skippy) brought immeasurable joy into her life upon his birth on February 25, 1952. Though Skippy's untimely departure from this world due to cancer on February 23, 1967 left an unfathomable void, Laverne cherished the precious moments they shared and kept his memory alive in her heart.

Sports were woven into the fabric of Laverne's life, and she relished cheering on the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Chicago Cubs, displaying her unwavering pride for her hometown. Her passion extended to exploring the city's culinary delights at her favorite restaurants, sharing the joys of good food and camaraderie with loved ones.

Faith was an anchor in Laverne's life, providing her with comfort and fellowship as she attended Bible Study. Her unwavering devotion and trust in a higher power gave her the resilience to overcome life's challenges with grace and determination.

In moments of leisure, Laverne found solace in the art of crocheting and assembling jigsaw puzzles. Her handcrafted creations were a testament to her patience, skill, and love for creating cherished keepsakes for her loved ones.

Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were blessed to know her, and her memory will

forever dwell in the hearts of those she touched. Above all, Laverne's loving nature, infectious kindness, and delightful sense of humor endeared her to all who had the pleasure of crossing her path. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, may Laverne Sebastian find eternal peace, knowing that her love and light will forever shine brightly in our lives.
