Laura Lee
Pounders
May 15, 1972 — Nov 1, 2023
Laura Lee Pounders, mother, niece, cousin and friend, passed away on November 1, 2023, in
Chicago, Illinois. Born on May 15, 1972, also in Chicago, Laura's 51 years were marked by an
unyielding spirit, a passion for life, and an incredible generosity that touched all who knew her.
Throughout her life Laura gravitated towards jobs of service and taking care of the needs of
others. She enjoyed her time working in the hospitality industry, a place where she could bring
joy to others through her cooking and attention to details. She had a heart for those in need and
her strength, resilience, and compassionate nature were reflected in her times of service as a
caretaker.
A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Laura loved nothing more than cheering on her team with the
same fervor with which she embraced life. She was equally passionate about fashion and
cosmetology, always radiating a unique style and elegance that was entirely her own. Laura was
known to find joy in shopping, often seeking out the perfect pieces to complement her chic
wardrobe. A lover of culinary arts, she enjoyed cooking and sharing her creations with her
friends. In her younger years, Laura found solace in journaling, a hobby that allowed her to
express her thoughts and feelings in a deeply personal way.
Laura is survived by her three children, Peter Pounders, David Pounders, and Jasmine Ramirez,
and her son-in-law, David Ramirez. She is also survived by her beloved aunt, Pamela Palhegyi,
and several cousins. Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Paulette Pounders, and her
grandparents, Eugene Pounders and Augustine Rogers-Pounders.
Laura's life was not easy. She endured many challenges relationally, physically, emotionally, and
spiritually. Yet through it all Laura clung to her faith in Jesus Christ. She knew she was deeply
loved by Jesus and that he was her Savior. To quote one of her favorite scriptures Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be
dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Laura firmly believed God was
always with her and that he continues to be with her now. Laura embodied this sentiment,
leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Her spirited
nature, passionate approach to life, and generosity will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
As we remember Laura, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by kindness, love, and an
unwavering spirit. Laura Lee Pounders, a woman of strength and passion, will forever be
remembered for her vibrant spirit and the love she had for her family and friends.
