Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lance Edward Giles, age 49. He left this world on March 21st, 2026, at the University of Chicago Medical Center, in Chicago, Illinois, after an almost 3 year battle with cancer.

He was born July 29th, 1976, in Berwyn, Illinois, son of the late Patricia Mary Helen (Henkel) and James Joseph John Giles.

He attended Julius Sterling Morton East High School in Cicero, IL, and was a member of the Mustangs basketball team.

Later in life, Lance met Angela Harrington, who became his companion and co-truck driver, eventually marrying and settling down in Portage, Indiana.

Lance was a dedicated employee for the Indiana Dept of Transportation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and was also a cross-country truck driver for various companies throughout his 25+ years in the industry. If Lance was accompanying you in the car, he navigated and rooted out the fastest routes to your final destination.

Lance was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, who loved the game of football and showed his knowledge of the sport by coaching Pop Warner football, while his step-son, Aidan, was on the team. Lance liked to fish and always tried to get a line in the water when he traveled. Lance had a knack for carpentry and renovated his home with Angela & Aidan.

Music was an important part of his daily life. Lance loved rock, hard rock and heavy metal bands and went to many concerts during his lifetime. Notably, he was recently able to attend a John Fogerty concert, which had been a bucket list item for him. Lance enjoyed spending his time surrounded by family and friends; whether it was helping with projects or just being there for support and conversation.

In addition to his parents, Lance was preceded in death by his wife Angela Harrington; his brother Kevin Giles; and his uncle Dean Henkel.

Lance is survived by, Aidan Harrington, step-son, Sage Taggart, significant other, Brenda and Tim Harrington, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rebecca and Bill Bland, mother-in-law and father-in-law, as well as his Aunt Mary Henkel, Aunt Donna Kenslea, Christine Henkel and Heather Henkel, cousins, all who will miss him dearly.
