Obituary

Kyle Otto Kozeny passed away on November 7, 2024 in Chicago, IL, at the age of 58. Born on May 10, 1966, in Canoga Park, CA, Kyle left a positive impact on everyone he ever encountered throughout his life due to his kind and personable nature and ability to connect with anyone.

Kyle's life began in California, but he was raised in Middleville, MI and moved to Jenison, MI in 2001. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jenny, and a loving father to his three children, McKenna, Brayden, and Kelton. Kyle's family was his pride and joy, as he was theirs.

A proud Spartan alumnus of Michigan State University, Kyle earned his Bachelor of Arts in Supply Chain before furthering his education with a Master's in Marketing and Management from Aquinas College. After retiring from a rewarding 25-year tenure at Gordon Food Service, Kyle found that due to his personable, charismatic nature, he was a natural born salesman - not surprising to anyone who fondly knew him as "The Mayor" - so he took talents to Hope Transportation and later Agrosuper, where he excelled.

Kyle's life extended beyond the office. He was an avid fan of Michigan State football and basketball, and was thrilled when Bray followed in his footsteps as a Spartan. He was additionally so proud of Kelton when their time spent tinkering on cars together turned into Kelton attending Ferris State University for automotive engineering. He will be dearly missed at Kel's Spring 2025 college graduation. Kyle also stuck right by McKenna's side as he helped her through the arduous process of buying her condo in Chicago last year. He loved to visit her there and fondly referred to her condo as his "Chicago Vacation Home." He was honored to raise his three kids alongside his wife of 31 years, and while he never missed an opportunity to remind anyone how good of a mom and wife Jenny is, everyone knew he was just as dedicated to being a dad and husband.

Kyle could often be found at a concert, cooking on his Blackstone, or on one of his trips to the racetrack. Those who knew Kyle can attest to his loving nature, his kindness, and his remarkable sense of humor and ability to tell a great story. He had a unique ability to light up a room and make everyone feel welcome. Genuine and charismatic, his presence was a source of comfort and happiness to his many friends and family.

Kyle is survived by his beloved wife, Jenny Kozeny; his daughter, McKenna Kozeny; his sons, Brayden and Kelton Kozeny; his sister, Suzy (Michael) Handler; his nephew, Eli Handler; his niece, Sadie Handler; and his in-laws, Shirley and Maurie Duncan, and Sharon Robinson. He now joins his dear mother, Ellen McCrea Sparesus, his father, Otto Kozeny, and his brothers, Steve and Scott Kozeny.

As we mourn the loss of Kyle, we also celebrate the remarkable life he led and the wonderful person he was to every single person he ever encountered. He was a man who embraced life's challenges and adventures, cherished his friends and family, and spread warmth and happiness wherever he went. He will be sorely missed by the many loved ones he is leaving behind, but he leaves all of us better and our lives more enriched as a result of getting to know and love him.

If anyone would like to make a donation in his name, Kyle would appreciate it going to Crash's Landing Cat Rescue, as those who knew Kyle knew how much he loved his cats, especially his sweet Penny.

Kyle's celebration of life will be held at the Hagar Park DeVries room in Georgetown Township on November 24th, from 1:00-4:00PM.
