Kevin M.
Ryan
Jan 9, 1951 — May 5, 2024
Kevin M Ryan, a lifelong resident of Chicago, passed away on May 5, 2024. He was 73. Kevin was born in Chicago on January 9, 1951 and lived with his family right by Wrigley Field. Kevin liked baseball from an early age, and as a young boy worked at Wrigley Field along with his brother, John, flipping up the seat bottoms after ballgames to earn tickets to upcoming games. Those were the days when the ballpark had wooden seats. Kevin also played little league at Welles Park.
Kevin attended Schurz High School, and after graduating in 1968, he began working at LaShore Press as a messenger. He soon expressed interest in becoming a pressman. After accelerating into this new position, he began running an AB Dick Press, while cranking music all day, according to his former co-worker. Eventually he became a foreman and mastered the job well for being so young. He spent many years at LaShore, a family- owned business, where he was definitely considered part of the clan.
After leaving LaShore Press, Kevin worked in the mortgage business at several companies; Associates and Downey Savings were two. He enjoyed the fast-paced business atmosphere and made many friends. After the collapse of the mortgage industry, Kevin went to work for Hertz Corporation. There he was fortunate to meet and become friends with others who shared his enthusiasm for travel, reigniting his interest in visiting Europe again. The group made two trips to Germany, creating lasting memories that Kevin spoke of often.
In the early 1980's, Kevin became interested in harness racing, and was part-owner of race horses Egyptian Jewel and Daddio Dugan. Egyptian Jewel placed first on Mar 3, 1982 at Maywood Park Race Track in Melrose Park, Illinois. It was a very exciting time for his friends and family to be around the winners circle that day.
Rounding out his final working days, Kevin worked for The City of Chicago, filling the role of Traffic Control Aide, covering many concerts and sports events around the city, and also covering traffic control at both O'Hare & Midway airports.
In addition to travel and horse racing, Kevin was passionate about golf, politics, and The Rolling Stones. He leaves behind his Dear Siblings Little Sister Maureen Polis (Moe), Dear Brother John, brother-in law Robert Polis, Cherished first cousins Dennis Machroli, Vince Machroli, Pat Machroli, and John Adelizzi, and many friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kevin at a future date to be announced.
