Obituary

Kenneth Kent Benton, affectionately known as Kenny, lived a life that echoed the beauty of his kind, courageous, and loving spirit. Born on September 15, 1961, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, Kenny's journey was one of joy, music, and the warmth of family. He departed from this world on May 9, 2025, in Melrose Park, IL, after a valiant battle with Stage 4 Gallbladder Cancer, leaving behind a legacy of light and love.Kenny, the beloved son of Shirley Ann Benton and the late Albert Cephus Lester, was a beacon of strength and resilience. His brothers Keena and Harold, favorite sister Pamela, and baby brother Albert, along with the heavenly Benton trio - Kerry, Kevin, and Gerald - have been the pillars of his life.

The joy of Kenny's heart was his children - De'Von, Ken, Che'Von, Ebony, and Nia - and his precious 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson, each a testament to his boundless love and the joy he found in being a father and grandfather.A proud graduate of Dunbar Vocational High School in 1979, Kenny carried the determination and spirit of his youth throughout his life. His passion for music was the soundtrack of many gatherings, creating moments that danced to the rhythm of his favorite tunes. Kenny's adventurous palate led him to explore new restaurants, always eager to try the latest culinary delights. Yet, his greatest pleasure was found in the simplest of places: surrounded by his family.Kenny's life was a living example of the power of positivity. He approached every challenge with a courageous heart, reminding us all of the words of the great Winston Churchill: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." Kenny continued with grace, infecting all who knew him with his unwavering optimism and love for life. His kind soul was a refuge for many, a gentle touch in a world that often needed more tenderness. Kenny's love knew no bounds, extending beyond the reaches of family and friends to touch the hearts of everyone he met.

He was a man who not only lived life but also gave life through his actions and words. As we celebrate Kenny's life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have on the world. He taught us that life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Kenny's moments were many, each one a cherished memory that will continue to inspire and guide us.In the echo of his laughter, the melody of his favorite songs, and the stories shared around the dinner table, Kenny's presence will forever be felt.

His spirit is a guiding light that will continue to lead us through the moments of darkness, reminding us to live life with a courageous and loving heart.Kenny's journey on this earth has ended, but his story is far from over. It is carried forward by those who loved him, those who were touched by his kindness, and those who will continue to be inspired by the way he lived his life. As we bid farewell to Kenny, we embrace the essence of his being and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts.
