It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Keith Kennard, who departed this life on July 16, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on March 28, 1943, Keith lived a life defined by service, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and community. A proud U.S. Army veteran, lifelong educator, entrepreneur, and family man, Keith leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and leadership.
Keith served his country with honor in the United States Army before dedicating his life to education. As a longtime teacher at Harlan Community Academy High School, he touched the lives of countless students with his patient guidance and unwavering belief in the power of learning. He was more than an educator—he was a mentor, a role model, and a source of encouragement to many.
Outside the classroom, Keith was the former owner of A Wonderland Educational Center, a cherished local establishment that brought smiles and memories to generations of families. He was also an avid supporter of the Chicago Chapter of National Epicureans, where he helped promote personal excellence, culture, and humanitarian service to the community.
Keith is survived by his loving children—Sherese Payne, Tamera Sterling, Brandon Kennard, and Yasmine Slater—and two cherished granddaughters, Asia Kennard and Ava Sterling. He also leaves behind his beloved companion, Deborah Taylor, whose love and presence brought great joy to his life along with ;other relatives and dear friends.
Keith will be remembered for his humility, integrity, and the steady, quiet strength that defined his character. His legacy of love, education, and service will live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keith's honor to organizations that support veterans, education, or youth development—causes he held dear.
Keith Kennard's life was a testament to service, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
