Obituary

Kathleen F. Alicea, affectionately known as KQ to those closest to her, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, at the age of 71. A lifelong resident of Chicago, IL, KQ was born on June 3, 1953, to Patricia Delaney and Francis E. Quinn, with Marlene E. Quinn later becoming her cherished adoptive mother. Her spirit returned to the city she loved, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for her loved ones and community.

KQ was a beacon of light for her family, who will remember her for her boundless love and enduring strength. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Israel Alicea. Her memory is treasured by her sisters, Patricia (Quinn) Wehunt, Maureen (Quinn) Douglas, and Christine (Quinn) Barnabus, and her brother, Daniel Quinn. She was a proud and loving aunt to her nephews Donald Wehunt, Robert Douglas, Matthew Douglas, Decklan Barnabus, and Donald Quinn, and her nieces Kelly Wehunt, Jennifer Douglas, Stefanie Quinn, and Madison Quinn. KQ also held a special place in her heart for her great-nephews Travis, Jake, Gianni, Isaac, and Macie, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.

Kathleen's professional journey was marked by her dedication to the well-being of others, a trait that guided her throughout her career in the healthcare industry. She served with compassion and excellence at Henrotin Hospital and Swedish Covenant Hospital, where her colleagues respected her for her expertise, kindness, and mentorship. KQ's commitment to her work was paralleled only by her involvement in various associations, where she was known for her collaborative spirit and her ability to inspire those around her.

Beyond her professional endeavors, KQ was renowned for her love of dogs. Her passion for canines of all breeds was evident to all who knew her, and she was a fervent supporter of the American Kennel Club. She found great joy in the companionship of her furry friends and advocated for their care and recognition, sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge with fellow dog lovers.

KQ lived her life with a sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact on the world around her. She approached each day with courage, especially during her brave battle with leukemia. Her resilience in the face of adversity was a testament to her character and served as an inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kathleen F. Alicea's legacy will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her unwavering spirit, generous heart, and the love she spread will endure as a guiding light for generations to come.

Kathleen's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, where her family and close friends will gather to honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on their hearts. As the sun sets on her final Chicago evening, KQ's spirit will be released to the heavens, where she will watch over the city and people she so dearly loved.

In the words of KQ herself, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Her life was indeed a collection of breathtaking moments that will continue to resonate with warmth and love. Rest in peace, Kathleen F. Alicea, a treasured soul who will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
