Obituary

Josaphine "Josie" Aena Lakin, 31, passed away on April 22, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1994, in Jacksonville to Angela Crabtree Lakin and Harold Neal Lakin Jr.

Josie grew up with a caring spirit and a natural desire to help others. She graduated from North Greene High School in 2013 and went on to attend Illinois State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising in 2017. That same year, she moved to Nashville, a place she would come to call home.

In Nashville, Josie built a life centered on compassion and community. She worked in the mental health field with Charlie Health, where she found purpose in supporting and uplifting others. Her work reflected her deeply empathetic nature and her genuine desire to make a difference in people's lives.

Josie was also an active member of Church of the City, where she found connection, faith, and a strong sense of belonging. She cherished the friendships and community she built there.

Josie is survived by her loving mother, Angie Lakin; her brothers, Cody Lakin and Ryan Wickens; her maternal grandparents, Ned and Peggy Crabtree; and many aunts, uncles, and extended family members, including Uncle Chris (Stephanie) Crabtree, Aunt Michelle (John and Conal Curley) Crabtree, Uncle David Ross, Aunt Kelly Robinson, and Uncle Mark Lakin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Neal Lakin Jr.; her grandparents, Harold Neal Lakin Sr. and Sharon Lakin; and her Aunt Sherrie Ross.

Josie will be remembered for her kind heart, her strength, and the way she made others feel seen, valued, and cared for. Her life, though far too short, left a lasting impact on all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on May 9th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home.

In honor of her memory, those who knew her are encouraged to extend kindness to others, reflecting the compassion she shared so freely.
