John
Mclaughlin
Aug 13, 1945 — Jul 20, 2024
Though he never married or had children of his own, John McLaughlin found a family whom he could call his own - in his niece Kathy and her husband Mark; as well as their two sons Mark and Matthew (and his grand-dog Kaner, of course).
John was beloved by his many nieces and nephews. He was the most generous person you could ever meet. If you needed anything, John was there to provide - no questions asked.
Aside from his family, John loved his lottery and annual trips to the casino. He loved visiting his birth country - Clonmany, Co. Donegal, Ireland in his healthier days. He always told his grand nieces and nephews stories of how simple life was, and how he missed his home there. He would tell stories to us of how he would get a balloon and chocolate bar for his birthday each year when he was a child.
However, when he moved to the south side of Chicago at 19 years old, John built a life for himself in the states. He got a great job, worked hard and was able to retire and finally enjoy the life he came to America for.
He had what he called his "White Castle Gang". Him and his close friends would spend hours drinking coffee and catching up on life there. Laughing together and sharing sentimental memories.
Though he could be a stubborn Irish man, John was the kindest most caring soul. And that is the legacy he left and will be remembered for.
