Obituary

John Randall Lassiter III, known to many as John or Randy, passed away on May 10, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 64 following health complications. Born on September 11, 1961, in Chicago, John carried a lifelong connection to the city, its culture, and the people who knew him best.

John was the beloved son of Rosielyn Utley Lassiter and the late John Lassiter Jr. He was the brother of Eric Winston Lassiter and is also survived by a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Lassiter Jr., and by his grandparents, John Sr. and Ethel Lassiter, whose love and influence remained an important part of his life.

Educated in Chicago, John graduated from the Latin School of Chicago and later attended DePaul University and Chicago State University. He believed deeply in lifelong learning and personal growth, continuing to explore new ideas and perspectives throughout his life. His involvement with Landmark Forum reflected his interest in self-awareness, reflection, and becoming the best version of himself.

John was an entrepreneur at heart. He approached business and life with creativity, independence, and a willingness to pursue new possibilities. Those who knew him professionally respected his vision, determination, and confidence, but also his ability to engage people in thoughtful conversation and inspire ideas. He was someone who believed life should continue evolving and that growth never truly stopped.

Beyond work, John was a man of wide-ranging interests and genuine appreciation for beauty, history, and culture. He loved sailing and found peace and freedom on the water. He enjoyed traveling and was especially drawn to historical architecture, admiring the craftsmanship and timeless character of well-made places. Vintage automobiles also captured his imagination, not only for their style, but for the stories and eras they represented.

Music was another enduring passion in his life, especially Big Band Jazz and classic jazz vocalists. He appreciated the elegance, rhythm, and emotional expression found in the music he loved, and those close to him knew how much joy it brought him.

John will be remembered for his curiosity, his conversations, and the thoughtful way he engaged with the world around him. He valued learning, connection, and individuality, and he leaves behind memories of laughter, insight, and meaningful moments shared with family and friends.

Though he will be deeply missed, John's life remains a reflection of resilience, ambition, faith, and enduring love. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
