Obituary

John V Blair passed away this week surrounded by family after a long health battle. He leaves behind three children, Jason Blair (Amanda Bolyn), Jennifer Gorszczyk (Tim) and Sarah Fettig (Rich) and seven grandchildren Nicholas, Nathan, Nolan & Autumn Blair; Liam & Madison Gorszczyk and Emilia Fettig. He also leaves behind six siblings, Paula Blair, Maureen Blair (Al Martinez), Bob (Sarina Hillard), Pat (Tracy), Tim (Veronica) and Chuck (Jocko), nine nieces & nephews and six great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. It seems like John was always working, after high school he started out at Republic Steel and moved on to follow his passion for designing and building. He enjoyed his career as a carpenter and project manager and continued this focus as he took on odd jobs that used his talent for making and fixing just about anything. John was a skilled craftsman that took pride in everything he did and embodied the belief that anything worth doing should be done right. He spent his free time turning trash into treasures and could see the possibilities in what others merely saw as junk. John was a member of the Sons of the American Legion post #1198 and considered it a second home and his extended family. Please join John's family for a celebration of his life that ended too soon at the Park Forest American Legion, 1631 Western Avenue, Chicago Heights, IL 60411 on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1:00pm-5:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations in John's memory to be made to the American Legion Post 1198.
