Jodi Willis
Teel
Oct 24, 1945 — Jul 6, 2023
Jodi Willis Teel died unexpectedly on July 6, 2023 in Chicago after a life filled with travel and adventure. Jodi was born on October 24, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Dolores Willis. She is survived by her two grandchildren, two daughters, son-in-law, first husband, and sister. She was known from a young age for her beauty and her intellect. Among her early accolades were winning the crown of Miss Chula Vista (while her dad was stationed with the Coast Guard in San Diego), graduating early and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington, and being a much-loved high school Spanish teacher. Jodi called herself and was known by her friends and family as a "citizen of the world" and a "night owl." She particularly loved "world cities," with Boston, London, Paris, New York, and Chicago topping the list and becoming repeat destinations for long-term stays over the last 30 years.
She enjoyed lectures at iconic venues like the 92nd Street Y and the Royal Over-Seas League club; strolling through museums and their cafés and stores; eating out at historic and lively restaurants, especially on holidays and other special occasions; absorbing interesting facts and wise words while browsing at bookstores; watching movies featuring European destinations like Mamma Mia and Under the Tuscan Sun; listening to music and learning about the lives of performers including Tina Turner, the Beatles, Johnny Cash, and John Denver; reading to, laughing with, and spoiling her grandkids; meeting new and interesting people everywhere she went; and living life on her own terms. Her global support network of friends, family, and travel acquaintances around the world meant so much to her.
Consistent with Jodi's preferences, there will be no formal service, but we encourage everyone to celebrate her life in your own personal way. In her memory, please consider making a donation to the 92nd Street Y or another charity that reminds you of Jodi's zest for life.
