Joan Lawson Baurer (age 88) of Deerfield, Illinios passed away on January 26, 2023. She was born July 10, 1934 in New York, NY.

Joan began her career as a Home Economics teacher in Queens, NY. After moving all over the world with her former husband, she settled in Bakersfield, CA. She continued her education in Business and Finance at California State College and then successfully completed her Certified Financial Planning Program through the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO.

Joan eventually relocated to Cary, IL and opened her own financial planning business, Joan Baurer & Co, in Crystal Lake, IL in 1981. She was a trailblazer for her time and successfully grew her business with a special emphasis on educating women with retirement planning, asset management and estate planning. After 20+ years, she sold her business to Dorion-Gray Retirement Planning to begin enjoying her own retirement.

Joan is survived by her children Zachary (Kathryn) Baurer and Valery (John) McAvoy; cherished grandmother to Alexandra, Hannah, Natalie and Bradley; and brother Donald (Joelle).

Among many of Joan's interests, her passions were her family, friends, painting, travel and collecting artifacts from all over the world.
