Obituary

In the fair town of Kankakee, where we lay our scene, a gentle soul did part from this mortal coil. James Rapier, born under autumn's golden gaze in the year of 1959, hath crossed the boundless ocean of eternity on the third day of March in the year of our Lord 2025. His life, a tapestry richly woven with love and mirth, began and concluded in the selfsame town of Kankakee, where he was a fixture as constant as the northern star.

As a self-employed painter, James daubed the canvas of life with broad and colorful strokes. His toil not only brightened the walls upon which he worked but also the hearts of those who knew his craft. Amidst the fellowship of brushes and hues, he found solace and purpose, leaving behind a legacy as vibrant as the shades he so lovingly applied.

James, a fisher of lakes as well as of souls, found joy in the gentle lapping of river against hull, the silent anticipation of the tug upon the line. In this tranquil pursuit, he sought not just the bounty of the waters but the serenity that nature, in her wisdom, imparts to those who seek her embrace.

Described by those who held him dear as gentle, James was as a soft-spoken sage, whose wisdom was dispensed with humor and grace. His jests and merriment, like the sweetest of sonnets, did oft bring forth laughter from the lips of his kin and companions. Handy was he, too, with tool and timber, a craftsman whose touch could mend the broken and give new life to the weary.

He leaves behind a tapestry of love, woven with the threads of his surviving kin: his loving partner, Becky Pridemore, whose heart did beat in time with his; his daughter Anna, a blossom of his own garden; and three grandchildren, stars that did sparkle in his twilight sky. His sister JoAnn Sabich and her spouse, George, remain to tell his tale; as does his sister Jean Rapier, a sentinel of his memory. He now joins in eternal repose his brother Jeff Rapier and sister Julie Alrandi, whose departures from this sphere preceded his own.

James Rapier, whose laughter hath filled the halls of time, whose gentle touch hath smoothed the rough edges of life, hath taken his leave. Yet, though he walks no longer amongst us, his spirit endures, a beacon of mirth and kindness to guide us through the shadowed vales. Let us not don the cloak of sorrow, but rather celebrate the years he hath shared with us, a man in full, whose life was as rich and fullsome as the noblest verse.

And so, we commit his memory to the ages, a tale of one who loved and was beloved. James Rapier, like all men, was a player upon the stage of life, and he hath played his part well. Now he rests, his lines spoken, his scenes concluded, and the applause of those he touched ringing through the firmament. Rest well, thou gentle, funny, handy soul, and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
